WSU hit 12-of-25 3-point attempts and held Kent State to 34.4 percent shooting, including 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from 3-point range, to improve to 8-4. Kent State fell to 7-4.
“For the entire game, our kids were super active,” Wright State coach Scott Nagy said on his post-game radio show. “We were in driving lanes. We really squeezed them in the middle of the floor and forced them to shoot from the perimeter.
“It’s hard to win games when you go 6 of 26 from 3. Our kids fought. I’m really proud of them.”
Junior Mark Alstork hit 5-of-10 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 25 points. The 6-foot-5 guard added five rebounds and dished out four assists.
Steven Davis added 14 points and Justin Mitchell pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The smaller Raiders had a 37-36 rebounding edge.
“I’m really pleased with Mark Alstork and how he”s responded to us the last couple of games,” Nagy said. “We’re running better offense and taking better shots.”
Wright State, which led from the opening tip, was up 17 (61-44) when Ryan Custer hit a 3-pointer with 9:33 to play.
Kent State stormed back, using a 19-4 run to get within 65-63 with 2:41 to play. The score stayed that way until the final 14 seconds when the Raiders hit 3-of-4 free throws — one by Grant Benzinger and two by Steven Davis — to put the game away.
Jaylin Walker led Kent State with 17 points.
Wright State returns to the road Thursday night at Murray State.
