Down on the farm: Reds prospects Mahle, Trammell star for Louisville, Dayton

OK, so the news wasn’t too good Thursday at Great American Ball Park, but there were highlights in the Reds organization as Class AAA pitcher Tyler Mahle was again impressive in the Louisville Bats’ 5-1 win over Buffalo.

The right-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out four. He did not walk a batter, and now 9-6 with a 1.93 ERA in 19 games combined between Pensacola and Louisville.

Elsewhere, outfielder Taylor Trammell had three hits for the Class A Dayton Dragons, who needed 13 innings to carve out a 6-5 win over the Peoria Chiefs at Fifth Third Field.

Class AA Pensacola third baseman Nick Senzel, the Reds’ top prospect in the opinion of many, went hitless for one of the few times since he was called up from Class A Daytona, but Louisville infielder Alex Blandino had a three-run double in the Bats’ victory.
