Stephen A. Smith's latest take on Marvin Lewis the dumbest yet

ESPN sports yeller Stephen A. Smith is back to embarrass himself with another terrible take on Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.

It’s hard to tell exactly what he’s trying to say, but the gist of this mostly incoherent rant seems to be Lewis is threatening to make all assistant coaches unemployable as head coaches in the future.

Initially he expresses his concern for what the continued employment of Lewis, who has overseen seven of the franchise’s 14 playoff appearances, will do for the credibility of minority coaches looking to become head coaches.

Then he goes on to include all up-and-coming coaches of any race in this concern.

So, to review, Stephen A. Smith apparently is worried that in the future NFL teams will think twice about hiring any coach who hasn't been a head coach before because Marvin Lewis thinks all he had to do is win more games than anyone in franchise history to feel his job is secure.

Smith, whose non-credible takes can be found daily on ESPN's awful First Take program, previously said Lewis has only been able to keep his job this season because he is black.

His absurd rantings don’t deserve attention for the most part, but some things are just so utterly dumbfounding they should be highlighted in order to maintain some sort of sanity and perspective in an increasingly shrill world of sports media.

The rest of us need to remember to, at the least, to be better than this.

Questioning if Lewis deserves to keep his job is absolutely valid, but suggesting a 14-year career in which he is above .500 with a franchise that had exactly zero winning seasons in the 14 years before him will cause difficulty for others like him is another thing entirely.
