Four area teams advance to football state championships

Four area teams have advanced to next week’s high school football state championships: Trotwood-Madison (GWOC American South), Clinton-Massie (Southern Buckeye Conference), Marion Local (Midwest Athletic Conference) and Minster (MAC). The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced which teams would play when after Friday night’s state semifinals.

The championships shift from Columbus to Canton’s new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium Thursday through Saturday. The Division II title game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, then three each on Friday and Saturday.

The final day’s tripleheader is loaded with area reps. Defending champ Marion Local (14-0) will play Kirtland (14-0) in a D-VI showdown of the state’s top-ranked teams at 10 a.m. At 3 p.m. it’s Clinton-Massie (13-1) vs. No. 1 Steubenville (14-0) in the D-IV championship. Trotwood (14-0) is paired with Dresden Tri-Valley (13-1) in the finale at 8 p.m.

All the games will be televised live on Spectrum Sports and broadcast by the OHSAA Radio Network.

D-II: Akron Archbishop Hoban (13-1) vs. Cin. Winton Woods (13-1), 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 1

D-VII: Minster (10-4) vs. Cuyahoga Heights (12-1), 10 a.m.

D-V: Wheelersburg (14-0) vs. Pemberville Eastwood (14-0), 3 p.m.

D-I: Pickerington Central (13-1) vs. Mentor (13-1), 8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 2

D-VI: Marion Local (14-0) vs. Kirtland (14-0), 10 a.m.

D-IV: Clinton-Massie (13-1) vs. Steubenville (14-0), 3 p.m.

D-III: Trotwood-Madison (14-0) vs. Dresden Tri-Valley (13-1), 8 p.m.
