Ohio State’s Josh Myers warms up before a game against Army on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Ohio Stadium.

Coach Urban Meyer praised the scout team, including Miamisburg graduate Josh Myers, for helping the Ohio State Buckeyes beat Army.

Myers and Wyatt Davis played guard on the scout team. Tate Martell played quarterback. The three true freshmen were singled out by Meyer in his press conference Monday as he explained how much work went into the 38-7 victory Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Army scored one touchdown on a 99-yard drive, but Ohio State otherwise held its run-heavy, wishbone offense in check.

“There were over 700 reps that went into this, coach (Greg) Schiano was telling me,” Meyer said. “We started this in March.”

Myers was one of 10 recruits to enroll at Ohio State in January. He has not cracked the depth chart like Davis, who is listed as one of the two backups at right guard, or another freshman, Thayer Munford, a backup at right tackle, but has found ways to contribute.

The scout team offense was especially important last week because Army’s offense is unlike anything Ohio State has seen or will see this year.

“We won the game because of that,” Meyer said.

Ohio State (2-1), which dropped from No. 8 to No. 10 in the Associated Press poll this week, plays UNLV at noon Saturday at Ohio Stadium.
