H.S. Results for 1/21/17: Dunbar’s McConnell stars in road victory

Dunbar’s Caleb McConnell had a night to remember Saturday during a 73-52 boys basketball victory at Toledo Scott.

The 6-foot-5 junior scored 28 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and handed out 7 assists for Dunbar (12-2). McConnell also dropped in five 3-point goals.

Devon Baker added 14 points, Chris Jackson 12 for the Wolverines, who led, 25-10, after one quarter and 44-22 at halftime.

Anna 73, Miami East 69, OT: Wyatt Bensman scored 20 as Anna outlasted Miami East.

Arcanum 52, Fort Recovery 44: Carter Gray scored 23 to lead Arcanum to victory. Caleb Martin, Micaiah Cox and Payton Jutte scored 12 apiece for Fort Recovery.

Bethel 47, Dayton Christian 45: Bethel escaped with a two-point win and improved to 14-3. Caleb South (Bethel) and Matt Welker (Dayton Christian) both scored 15.

Botkins 53, New Knoxville 46: Luke Bergman led Botkins with 22 points. Jonah Lageman had 15 for New Knoxville.

Brookville 48, Twin Valley South 34: Jacob Gudorf scored 16 for Brookville (13-1), Jared Cottingim 11 for Twin Valley South.

Carlisle 54, Tri-County North 44: Carlisle (10-4) outscored Tri-County North, 21-9, in the third quarter and won behind Adam Goodpaster’s career-high 30 points.

Miller City 49, Lima Temple Christian 34: Noah Howell (17) and Brody Bowman (14) scored 31 of Temple Christian’s 34 points.

Minster 53, Russia 46: Aaron Ernst scored 10 for Minster, which broke away from a halftime tie. Jack Dapore led Russia with 11.

Ponitz 66, Clark Montessori 55: Floyd Scott’s 26 points and 20 rebounds helped Ponitz to a win, as did 15 points from De’Edgar Cooks.

Preble Shawnee 57, National Trail 51: Preble Shawnee outscored National Trail, 22-12, in the decisive third quarter and Levi Lewis sank four free throws in the final 54 seconds. Lewis led Preble Shawnee with 13 points. Peyton Harrison scored 15, Dalton Mason 13 for National Trail.

St. Henry 46, Ansonia 29: St. Henry sprinted to a 22-5 lead after one quarter. Trevor Alexander led Ansonia with 12. Tyler Schlarman was 7-for-9 from the field and scored 17 for St. Henry.

Stivers 52, Bowling Green 33: Stivers (9-6) won its fourth in a row as Paris Minnifield scored 22 points and recorded five steals and Tony Boddie added 11 points.

Tippecanoe 46, Bellbrook 39: Zach Bonifas and Josh Wildermuth scored 12 points each and Quenten Williams 11 as Tippecanoe pulled away in the fourth quarter. Nathan Cordonnier led Bellbrook with 18.

Tri-Village 65, Winchester (Ind.) 32: Trace Couch had 26 points and 15 rebounds as Tri-Village won big.

Vandalia 67, Tecumseh 43: Miles Joiner scored 17 for Vandalia, Brandon Norman 13 and Nathan Stogdill 12. Clay Mastin had 19 for Tecumseh. Vandalia scored 25 points in the third quarter, including four 3-point goals.

Wapakoneta 50, New Bremen 32: Aaron Good scored 17 for Wapakoneta, Nolan Bornhorst 11 for New Bremen.

Wayne 74, Middletown 45: Wayne (10-5) was clinging to a 30-26 lead at halftime, but scored 27 points in the third quarter and rolled past Middletown (4-9). Darius Quisenberry scored 16, Deshon Parker 15 and Rashad McKee 13 for Wayne, which sank 11 3-point goals. Clifton Snow topped the Middies with 19 points.

Yellow Springs 69, Mechanicsburg 67: Yellow Springs led, 41-21, at halftime while earning its second victory of the season. Andrew Clark led Yellow Springs with 24 points, hitting four 3-point goals. Chris Taylor (18 points) was one of four Mechanicsburg players in double figures.

Alter 74, Purcell Marian 27: Libby Bazelak scored 17, Olivia Gillis 14 and Emily Long 13 for Alter (13-2, 6-0).

Badin 55, Fenwick 23: Badin outscored Fenwick, 33-5, in the middle two quarters. Ally Stang and Shelby Nusbaum scored 11 each for the Rams.

Bradford 46, Twin Valley South 42: Bradford won its second Cross County Conference game, thanks to 30 points by Mandi Bates.

Carroll 61, McNicholas 43: Carroll (14-2, 5-1) remained one game behind Alter in the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North.

Cincinnati Christian 50, New Miami 23: Lyric Harris scored 23 for Cincinnati Christian, Faith Parker 15 for New Miami.

Covington 57, Newton 44: Sammie Whiteman scored 17 for Covington (13-4, 8-1) Tatum McBride 13 for Newton (9-4, 4-3).

Eaton 48, Brookville 29: Ashlynn Black scored 12, Bailee Worley 10 for Eaton.

Edgewood 42, Ross 25: Edgewood (14-1, 8-0) outscored Ross, 17-0, in the third quarter. Jessa Brown scored 11, Cierra Lipps 10 for Edgewood.

Fort Loramie 55, Fairlawn 18: Fort Loramie led, 47-9, after three quarters. Sara Stang (11 points) was one of 10 Redskins who scored. Hunter Barga pulled down eight rebounds for Fort Loramie (11-5, 7-2).

Fort Recovery 33, Arcanum 31: Jocelyn Kaiser’s 12 points and 9 rebounds were key for Fort Recovery, which won after watching a 12-point second-quarter lead slip away. Stevie Johnting led Arcanum with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Hamilton 55, Oak Hills 50: CiCi Riggins scored 17, Samatha Fuller 12 and Anna Cardwell 11 for Hamilton.

Kenton Ridge 75, Benjamin Logan 55: Jamari McDavid scored 36 and Mikala Morris had 20 points and 21 rebounds for Kenton Ridge. Nikki Current scored 26 for Benjamin Logan.

Lakota West 61, Lakota East 18: Lakota West led, 36-2, at halftime. Alexandra Haar scored 12, Abby Prohaska 11 and Jasmine Ballew 10 for West (14-2, 9-1).

Mason 66, Fairfield 40: Five players scored in double figures for Mason, which led by 25 at halftime in this key Greater Miami Conference game. Sammie Puisis led Mason (14-1, 10-0) with 17 points, Anna Brinkmann had 11 points and 12 rebounds, Megan Wagner 10 points and 6 assists. Zahrya Bailey topped Fairfield (9-5, 7-3) with 12 points.

Mechanicsburg 67, Riverside 50: Four players scored in double figures for Mechanicsburg, led by Mikayla Dodane’s 21.

Miami East 45, Ansonia 32: Camryn Miller scored 14, Haley Howard 11 for Miami East, which broke open a close game in the fourth quarter.

Milton-Union 47, Carlisle 40: Milton-Union (10-4, 5-2) pulled away in the second half behind Kristen Dickison’s 18 points. Christa Harris led Carlisle (9-5, 3-5) with 17 points.

Monroe 44, Franklin 34: Katie Sloneker scored 15, Jahsalyn Robinson 13 for Monroe (14-2, 8-1): Leah Ferrell led Franklin (8-8, 4-4) with 27.

National Trail 50, Franklin Monroe 45: JaLynn Byrd scored a career-high 23 points as National Trail (8-7, 3-4) surprised Franklin Monroe (11-5, 6-3).

Oakwood 44, Valley View 40: Kyndall Ketterer scored 15, Emmy Cobb 12 for Oakwood, which won despite being outscored, 14-4, in the second quarter. Valley View’s Hunter Stidham led all scorers with 19.

Spg. Shawnee 60, Indian Lake 37: Des Parks scored 18 as Shawnee evened its Central Buckeye Conference record at 5-5. Morgan Evilsizor led Indian Lake with 14.

Talawanda 67, Harrison 44: Talawanda (10-5, 6-2) got 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists from Emma Wright and three other starters scored in double figures: Addie Brown (17), Gabriella Lindley (12) and Katlynn Woodruff (10 points, 12 rebounds).

Tecumseh 82, Graham 39: Presley Griffitts scored 25 points and handed out 13 assists as Tecumseh climbed to 14-2. Corinne Thomas led Tecumseh with 31 points. Kayla Tullis led Graham with 14.

Urbana 68, Greenon 51: Urbana got big games from Madisny Horn (19 points, 12 rebounds), Hunter Rogan (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Alaina Lyons (14 points). Delaney Benedict led Greenon with 19 points.

Waynesville 54, Preble Shawnee 33: Unbeaten Waynesville (15-0) shot out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter. Rachel Murray scored 16, Aubrey Rains 12 for Waynesville and Marcella Sizer pulled down 14 rebounds.

Wrestling

Central Crossing Comet Classic: Vandalia wrestlers won three weight classes and were second in four others as the Aviators won the team championship in the 16-team Central Crossing Comet Classic in Grove City. Vandalia accumulated 267 points to 244 for Versailles. Matt Verdes (106), Josh Suddeth (120) and Ronnie Pietro (126) of Vandalia were weight-class winners, as were Tanner Bey (145) and Jeffrey Ware (285) of Versailles. Gavin Sineff of Tecumseh was runnerup at 113 and his team placed ninth. Second-place finishers for Vandalia included Bailey Suddeth (132), Jestin Love (138), Jansen Love (170) and Dylan Sagers (220).

Horning Memorial: Mason rolled up 315.5 points to outdistance Indianapolis Cathedral (237.5) and win the 10-team James V. Horning Memorial Tournament. Fairmont (146.5) finished third, Beavercreek (93.5) sixth, Centerville (84) seventh, Lakota West (81) eighth and Legacy Christian (64) ninth. Fairmont’s Nevan Snodgrass (145) and Mark Kimbrell (182) were weight class champions, Ben Smith (170) was second an Alex Burger (152) third. Bradley Smith of Beavercreek was third at 220 pounds, teammate Reece Blackmore third at 182. Centerville’s Jacob Charette was second at 220 pounds, with teammates Max Miller (170), Chris Markham (195) and Michael Markham (285) all finishing third.

Swimming

Bellbrook Invitational: Bellbrook swept the team titles of its own invitational. The Bellbrook girls rolled up 335 points to runnerup Wilmington’s 315. The Bellbrook boys accumulated 437 points to Oakwood’s 311. John Sampson (200 IM, 100 backstroke) and Cole Huggard (100 breaststroke) were individual event winners for Bellbrook’s boys.
