HS Roundup 2/24: Bellbrook’s Bybee finishes first in state championship

The Bellbrook boys swimming team took fourth place overall for Division II at the state championships, held in Canton.

Cody Bybee placed first in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle. John Sampson finished second in both the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle. As a team, Bellbrook earned second in the 200m medley relay.

Fenwick’s Adam Cheney earned the championship in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Waynesville’s Owen Conley also took home two first place finishes in the 200m individual medley and 500m freestyle.

Sectional Tournament

Carroll 61, Tippecanoe 46: Eli Ramsey exploded for 28 points in the D-II sectionals win. Daniel Hagens countered with 18 points for Tippecanoe.

Alter 64, Ponitz 54: Derek Willits poured in 19 points in the D-II sectional victory. Damonte Bailey led with 16 in the losing effort.

Chaminade Julienne 51, Monroe 31: Jack Nauseef put up 15 points for CJ, while Joey Green tacked on eight. Tristan Backas paced all scorers with 18 for Monroe.

Bellbrook 48, Oakwood 36: Donnie Crouch tacked on 13 points to his season total in the sectional win. Andy Neff countered with 12 for Oakwood in the losing effort.

Clark Montessori 56, Cin. Christian 48: Riley Reutener shot for 19 points in the sectionals loss.

National Trail 58, Carlisle 46: National Trail held Carlisle scoreless in the first seven minutes of the third quarter to bounce back from a halftime deficit. Cameron Harrison, Zach Woodall and Dalton Mason combined for 45 points in the win.

Anna 68, Dixie 55: Bart Bixler shot for 19 points in the Anna win. Devin Worley paced all scorers with an explosive 27 points in the losing effort.

Fort Loramie 65, Mechanicsburg 21: Austin Siegel and Damon Braun combined for 36 points in the D-IV victory. Chris Taylor had 11 for ‘Burg.

Botkins 40, Riverside 39: Ethan Butcher put up 19 points in the sectional win. Spencer Heuker tacked on 14.

Stivers 55, Madison 37: Allen Latimore led Stivers with 14 points in the D-III victory. Doug Spear added on 12 and Da’Juan Allen 11.

Legacy Christian 59, Jefferson 17: Erik Uzsynski led all scorers with 15 points in the victory.

Girls Basketball

Regular Season

Dunbar 63, Stivers 41: Monet Allen netted 20 points in the Dunbar victory. Aria Cole tacked on 14 as Dunbar took home the city championship. Joia Allen had 16 in the Stivers loss.

Sectional Tournament

Russia 41, Botkins 24: Jenna Cordonnier led with 16 points in the D-IV win, advancing Russia to the sectional finals. Paige Lane put up eight for Botkins.

Fort Loramie 68, Houston 34: Kenzi Hoelscher netted 17 points in the Lorammie victory. Hollie Voisard tallied nine for Houston in the losing effort.

New Bremen 44, Marion Local 34: Hanna Tenkman tallied 12 points, while Jane Homan added on 11 for New Bremen. Heidi Rethman’s 16 points led all scorers in the loss.

Minster 61, New Knoxville 27: Demaris Wolf led all scores with 13 points in the Minster victory. Megan Jurosic shot for 11 for New Knoxville.

Coldwater 52, Allen East 20: Kourtney Diller netted 18 points and six rebounds in the sectionals victory.

Wrestling

Batavia Sectional: Ross won the overall tournament for the Division II sectional. Wilmington took third and Badin ninth. Jake Gentry earned first at 113 and Brayden Plohs at 138. Wilmington’s Isaac Allen and Conner Barton placed first at 160 and 285.

Blanchester Sectional: Waynesville placed 12th with 52.0 points. MVCA followed close behind at 13th with 45.0.

Centerville I Sectional: Beavercreek finished first overall with 208.5 points with Springboro close behind at 204.5. Kaileigh Nuessgen, Gavin Bell and Ian Heiland all won their respective weight classes.

Centerville II Sectional: Butler outscored Little Miami by nearly 90 points to earn the sectional tournament championship. Butler had nine first place finishers. Jacob Padilla and Austin Mullins both won for Wayne.

Covington Sectional: Troy Christian scored 209.5 points to earn second overall. Covington followed at third, with Milton Union at fourth. Olivia Shore took home first at 106 for Miami East, one of six top finishers for ME.

Graham I Sectional: Graham exploded for 349.5 points to win the D-II sectional. All 14 Graham wrestlers finished second or higher, with 12 winning their respective weight classes. Chaminade Julienne’s Thomas McGraw (132) and Hunter Johns (182) stole two wins from Graham.

Graham II Sectional: Valley View, Eaton and Bellefontaine took home the medal honors. Ethan Mayo, Joey Dima, Hunter Ernst and Stone Day all won their weight classes for VV. Kenton Ridge’s Bryce Davis placed first at 120 and Urbana’s Gayvn Grim at 126.

Hamilton Sectional: Fairfield earned 170.0 points for a third place finish in the D-I sectional. Zach Schupp won at 106 and Jabari Thomas at 226 for Fairfield.

Lebanon Sectional: Lebanon finished fifth overall with 134.0 points. Ethan Marsh took home second at 152, while Caleb Tackett won third at 145.

Lehman Catholic Sectional: Versailles scored 226.0 points, Indian Lake 173.0 and Mechanicsburg 146.0 for the medal honors. Tommy Hoskins won by pin at 126 for Legacy Christian.

Lima Sectional: Coldwater took home first overall, as Josh Fink and Thomas Schwieterman earned the top honors in their weight classes.

Swimming

State Championship

Boys Division I: Beavercreek’s Jeff Pohlmann placed third on the 50m freestyle and 12th in the 100m butterfly. ‘Creek finished 21st overall out of over 50 teams.

Girls Divison I: Nicola Lane finished fifth in the 500m freestyle and eighth in the 100m backstroke for Centerville. Centerville placed 14th overall as a team.

Boys Division II: Kevin Leibold took the silver in the 500m freestyle and the bronze in the 200m individual medley for Alter. Carroll’s Conner Blatt placed second in the 200m individual medley.

Girls Division II: MacCleary Morgan took the bronze in the 200m and 500m freestyle for Carroll. Emily Sullivan earned another bronze for Carroll in the 100m butterfly. Bellefontaine’s Amy Fulmer placed second in the 100m freestyle and third in the 100m backstroke. The Oakwood girls placed sixth overall.

Gymnastics

SW Ohio Championships: Miamisburg and Troy both qualified to compete at the state tournament. Troy’s Lizzy Deal took home first all-around, on bar and on vault, while finishing second in beam and floor. Madison Ahrens advanced to state in vault, bar and floor for Versailles.
