The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association named Dayton Flyers coach Shauna Green the winner of the 2017 Spalding Maggie Dixon NCAA Division I Rookie Coach of the Year award on Friday..

Green took over the program weeks before the start of practice in September and led the Flyers to a 22-10 record, a share of the Atlantic 10 regular-season title, the A-10 tournament championship and a NCAA tournament berth.

The award is named for Dixon, who was the head coach at Army when she died at 29 in 2006 of an undiagnosed heart condition.
