Is a blast from the past in the coming to the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff?

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported Wednesday night “there is mutual interest between Bronson Arroyo and the Reds.”

The veteran righty could end up as another option for Bryan Price’s starting rotation, which lost a member last week with the trade of Dan Straily but has several prospects knocking on the door.

Arroyo was a big part of the Reds renaissance over the past decade, winning 105 games in eight years after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2006 season.

Known for his rubber arm and distinctive hair, Arroyo averaged just under 211 1/3 innings per season from ’06-13.

Since leaving the Reds, he has not been able to stay healthy, pitching only 14 games for the Diamondbacks in ’14 – the last time he pitched in the majors.

Re-signing Arroyo might not make or break the 2017 Reds, who are probably still at least a year away from being contenders again, but it does provide an excuse to bring back the famous JTM ads he did during his first stint with the club.

The commercial’s score was truly unforgettable… for better or for worse.
