It’s been 10 years since the Miami University basketball team made it to the NCAA tournament.

Ten years ago today — March 10 — to be exact.

And it happened in crazy, improbable fashion when Alter High School graduate Doug Penno banked in a buzzer-beating trey to lift No. 4 seed Miami past No. 2 Akron 53-52 in the Mid-American Conference tournament championship game after the RedHawks had upset No. 1 Toledo 58-53 in the semifinals.

The RedHawks went into the NCAA tournament as 14 seed and nearly upset No. 3 Oregon before falling 58-56. The Duck went on to the regional final, where they lost to eventual champion Florida.

The video of Penno’s shot is pretty incredible, but make sure you don’t stop it after he hits it, or even after the replay. Wait until the very end to see former Miami assistant coach Jermaine Henderson fly past the career in celebratory glee.
