The Missouri Valley Conference has invited Valparaiso to join the league effective July 1.

The Missouri Valley Conference on Tuesday announced it has extended an invitation to Valparaiso University, one of Wright State’s top rivals in the Horizon League.

In a statement posted to the MVC Twitter account, the conference said the invitation is for Valpo to become a member on July 1, and added “there will be no further comment, pending the negotiation of terms.”

Valparaiso, which joined the HL in 2007, will replace Wichita State, which left the MVC to join the American Athletic Conference.

This is the second time in four years the Missouri Valley has poached a team from the Horizon League after Loyola (Ill.) made the move in 2013.
