Proposed greens fee rate hikes at the 27-hole course include rounds for all seven days of the week and holidays, as they did last year, Centerville records show. But Marino said memberships, which have not been raised in several years, are “where the majority of the increases” are planned.
“The membership sales have gone through the roof — specifically, I think due to the COVID effect where many people had more time to be outdoors,” he said.
“And let’s face it, being outdoors became one of the go-to things to do during the pandemic and continues to be so,” he added.
Membership packages that ranged from $495 to $3,595 this year — depending on specific options — will cost from $525 to $3,850 next year, according to the proposal expected to be considered next week by Centerville City Council.
Among the factors involved in recommending rate hikes is “the sheer amount of demand for memberships,” Marino said.
Yankee Trace has also “seen similar participation” among non-members, he added.
The planned individual greens fees for next year at the 150-acre, city-owned course, according to documents, include:
•Monday through Thursday: $21 to $22 for nine holes; $39 to $40 for 18 holes;
•Friday: $23 to $24 for nine holes; $44 to $46 for 18 holes;
•Holidays and weekends: $25 to $26 for nine holes; $49 to $52 for 18 holes.
As with many other courses, those fees progressively drop after noon. Higher rates are also recommended on packages for golf instruction and use of practice facilities.
Fees are evaluated annually based “on market trends and historical sales,” a memo from Marino states.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, people have “flocked to local golf courses,” he said, after medical experts said the sport offered a safer environment than many activities in the coronavirus era.
