1. DAYTON SCREAM PARK
What’s going to scare the pants off visitors of Dayton Scream Park?
LT: We have three haunted attractions; we have the largest haunted trail in the area. And we have two haunted houses, and they are both very unique — different from what everybody else has. We don’t go with the typical haunted house theme. Everything that is done here is unique and is done by unique individuals. For all three attractions, it is only 20 bucks, which can get you into all three attractions. We’ve been around for 14 years and the experience as a whole is the best in the area. We’ve been rated over and over every year, and we have been in the top 10 in Ohio several times.Describe your haunted houses:
LT: One of them is called Clown Town, and it’s based on circus clowns and the other one is called Texas and it’s based on the Texas chainsaw massacre. On a scale of 1-10 how scary is "Clown Town"? How scary is "Texas?"
LT: Texas is a 10; the judges that just came through said it was the best thing they’ve seen all year. Period. Clown Town is a 9.What makes these attractions so scary?
LT: Honestly, it’s the people that work there. Everybody there works the scene. They build their own scenes, and they act in them. Everybody builds their own area and works their own scene and will act in them themselves. So, each spot you go to is created in its own way. You don’t have one person saying this is how everything has to be. So you might go in one scene and see a little girl crying, or swinging on a swing, and in the next scene you might see aliens and monsters, or even Freddy Krueger. Is it kid friendly?
LT: Everyone is different, but what I tell people is it’s based on the child themselves. I have 5-year-olds that go through and laugh, and I have 55-year-old adults that wet themselves. It really depends on the person. What makes your haunted houses different from others in the area?
LT: Sheer size is one thing. The size of your place is pretty much larger than anyone in the Dayton area. I can actually guarantee that it's larger than anyone else’s in the Dayton area. But, we are definitely the scariest. We’ve been rated over and over and over again as "Top Haunt" and "Scariest Haunt." Honestly, in the Dayton area, we are the only ones that even get judged anymore because the judges stopped going to the other ones because there was a lack of interest in others.
How do you keep people engaged?
LT: The themes change every year. Some of the buildings are in the same locations — like for the Texas Haunted experience, this year was our first year—we got a lot of input on it, there was a lot of stuff that we did to change it up this year. We literally got new rooms, new props, and six of the local haunted houses or attractions that went out of business within the last 10 years.I have bought all their props and everything that they had and now that is all at our haunt.
