Trump blasts impeachment effort in letter to Pelosi

On the eve of a historic vote which would make him only the third President to be impeached by the House, President Donald Trump denounced what he labeled a 'partisan impeachment crusade' in Congress, arguing the two articles of impeachment leveled against him 'are not recognizable under any standard of Constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence.'

"They include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever," the President wrote in a six page letter. "You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!"

In his letter, the President accused the Speaker of 'offending Americans of faith' by saying that she prays for the President - a phrase Pelosi consistently repeats for reporters.

"It is a terrible thing you are doing," Mr. Trump wrote to Pelosi, "but you will have to live with it, not I!"

Democrats quickly ridiculed the President's impeachment missive.

"This letter is an embarrassment to the office," said Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA).

"The Founders gave the House of Representatives the "sole power of impeachment" in the United States Constitution to stop abuses of power like the ones Trump committed in plain sight and no amount of temper tantrums will change that," Beyer tweeted.
