The F/A-18 Super Hornet is the Navy’s premier strike fighter, the show said in an announcement Thursday. Powered by two General Electric turbofan after-burning engines, the supersonic Hornet has a top speed of Mach 1.8 (1,190 mph).

“Spectators will witness history in the air as the Hornet will fly in formation with the famed Corsair warbird, a matchup called the legacy flight,” the air show said in a statement. “The Corsair is well known for its distinctive ‘gull wing’ and huge propeller with a 2,100 horsepower Pratt-Whitney radial engine making the aircraft a favorite among aviators.
“Having the modern-day powerful Hornet flying with the iconic WWII and Korean era Corsair will be a thrilling sight,” the show added.
“We are thrilled the Navy has selected Dayton for an F-18 legacy flight,” Scott Buchanan, chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show board of trustees, said in the show’s release. “What an awesome show we have shaping up for 2019. We can’t wait for summer to get here.”
This year’s lineup includes the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights, Sea Harrier, with the U.S. Air Force C-17 and KC-135 Demo and more.
