LOCAL: Could Dayton, Cincinnati become one metro area?
The coalition's Priority Development and Advocacy Committee each year sorts through dozens of requests to create the prioritized list of which projects it will lobby for at the state and federal level.
The top five urban funding requests this year are:
- Dayton Arcade innovation hub: $2 million requested toward the $41.3 million Dayton Arcade innovation hub. The joint venture with the University of Dayton and The Entrepreneurs Center will be for a mix of research, academics, experiential learning, and entrepreneur support.
- YWCA renovation: $1 million toward the $17 million renovation of the only domestic violence shelter in both Montgomery and Preble counties.
- Dayton Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit and Detox Center: $1.9 toward the $4.3 million proposed detox center to respond to the opioid crisis and other substance abuse issues.
- Hope Center for Families: $818,810 toward the proposed $9.2 million Hope Center for Families. The 31,400-square-foot facility spearheaded by Omega Community Development Corp. would be aimed at reducing generational poverty.
- Advanced Manufacturing Center: Sinclair Community College would renovate existing campus space to create a new center targeted at the advanced manufacturing sector.
Some other top urban requests include $500,000 toward the proposed Gem City Market co-op grocery, $4 million toward the Fairgrounds renovation, $492,000 for a new community health center by Dayton Children’s, and $2.5 million for the Dayton Art Institute renovations.

The top five rural funding requests are:
- Greene County Career Center: $1.9 million toward a new $60 million program to focus on aircraft maintenance and unmanned aerial vehicle engineering and operations.
- Wright State University Archives Center: $2.2 million toward a $8.2 million renovation to house the university's archives and special collections.
- Springfield downtown parking facility: $2.5 million toward a $9.8 million proposed parking structure that would have four stories and 485 parking spots and three storefronts for businesses to lease.
- Center for Workforce Development at Clark State: $5 million toward a $5.9 million renovation of campus space into a new downtown Springfield training center to serve local employers' needs.
- Airport equipment and Facilities Maintenance Complex: $1.8 million toward a $3.7 million construction project at Wilmington Air Park to build a new maintenance complex with spec office space.
