In a letter to the state dated Monday, Sugar Creek said its layoffs took place between March 26 and April 6. “In total, 129 employees were laid off during that time frame; however, a portion of the layoffs were only temporary and 35 of those employees have been rehired this week,” the company said in its letter to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

“All layoffs were due to unforeseeable business changes related to COVID-19,” Sugar Creek added in its letter. “No additional layoffs are planned at this time but, given the unpredictable business climate during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is subject to change. Letters were sent to these employees providing information on how to file for unemployment benefits.”
Neither the state nor I Am Boundless, a Worthington-based behavioral services non-profit agency, breaks down its layoffs by location. It reported total layoffs of 87.

Recently, Sugar Creek spent $350,000 on two acres of land adjacent to its North Gettysburg Avenue plant.
The Washington Court House-based food producer has a Dayton plant at 1241 N. Gettysburg. The recently purchased pair of parcels are close by at 1365 N. Gettysburg, Montgomery County property records show.
