The message says the recipient can appeal, but when the recipient clicks on the item number on the notice and logs in, the scam artist captures their eBay account information, officials said.
Better Business Bureau officials said eBay won’t ask users to provide confidential information by email.
To report a “phishing” email to eBay, forward the fake notice to spoof@ebay.com. If a link in the email takes you to a fake website, report the email and URL to phishing-report@us.cert.gov.
