Ohio-based Big Sandy Superstore has opened a pop-up location at the Dayton Mall in anticipation of its upcoming Superstore opening in the former Elder-Beerman Furniture store.

The 2400 Miamisburg Centerville Road store near Target is expected to open around the first of October, said Big Sandy CEO Robert VanHoose. But the company has opened a temporary location in the former Charlotte Russe at the Dayton Mall.

“We’re new to the market and we just wanted to meet people… and get to know our customers a little better,” VanHoose said.

Workers at the Dayton Mall location will also join the staff of 25 to 30 at the upcoming Superstore. The company will have invested close to $2 million in the 53,000 square-foot building when the project is completed.

Big Sandy is designed to be four stores in one, Vanhoose said. The store will sell furniture, mattresses, appliances and HDTVs.

“We have built out our presence in the Columbus Market, and Dayton is a natural extension. Our business plan is similar to the former Roberds chain — who had a lot of success in Dayton,” he said.

The company is headquartered in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, bordering the Ohio River in South Central portion of the state.

The company has 18 other stores in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
