CarMax CEO to be at local grand opening

Tom Folliard, president and chief executive of CarMax Inc., will be on hand June 16 for the opening of the new CarMax lot at 3555 Miamisburg-Centerville Road.

It will be the Dayton area’s first car “superstore.” The company will also have a “grand opening” of a Cincinnati-area store the same day, said CarMax spokeswoman Elia Imler.

The local opening will take place about 9 a.m.

The car lot is just west of Interstate 75’s Dayton Mall exit, exit 44. The company has said it planned to hire about 70 people for the store.

Richmond, Va.-based CarMax submitted plans for the 45,575-square-foot store to West Carrollton government in 2007. Though ground was broken for the business in the spring of 2008, the company said the recession delayed the site’s opening.

The 15-acre, $19 million development will sell used cars. CarMax operates about 100 used car “superstores” in 46 markets, including two in the Columbus area.
