Plans currently consist of three luxury estate homes for the 2014 show with the possibility of up to three others, according to the Dayton builders group.
Homearama is a recurring event open to the public showcasing the latest bells and whistles in new home construction.
Dayton last saw Homearama in Oakwood in 2012. Prior to that show, the last Dayton Homearama before that was held in 2008.
“We still have a problem with the banks loaning on the jumbos,” or high-priced homes, Klass said.
There aren’t very many current comparable sales for new million-dollar homes in the Dayton market, Klass said. As a result, homebuyers in this price range are being asked to pay more down — some as much as 50 percent down — on their mortgages for homes priced $400,000 and above, he said.
Meanwhile, the Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati is sponsoring Homearama now at the subdivision Carriage Hill in Butler County, running through July 28.
Year-to-date, local governments have issued Dayton-area homebuilders 691 permits. Activity rose 12 percent for the first five months of 2013 over the same time period in 2012.
In the Cincinnati market, local governments have issued 1,150 permits, up almost 33 percent from the 868 permits issued January through May 2012, according to the Cincinnati builders group.
