Cinemark to renovate south Dayton theater

The Rave Cinemas Dayton South 16 theater in West Carrollton will boast the region’s only Cinemark XD auditorium following a renovation announced by owner Cinemark Holdings Inc.

The renovation of the 16-screen theater at 195 Mall Woods Drive will include the addition of a Cinemark XD auditorium, which offers a large-format experience featuring a large wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen, plush seating and a custom digital surround sound system, officials said.

To date, Cinemark has constructed 137 XD auditoriums worldwide. The Cinemark XD auditorium at the Dayton South theater will be the first in the Dayton market, officials said.

The upgrades also will include a complete lobby and concession stand remodel.

“When completed, the newly renovated Dayton South theater will offer our guests the newest technology and latest amenities,” said Tim Warner, Cinemark’s chief executive, in a statement.

Officials said the theater will remain open for business during the remodel, and the renovation process is expected to be completed in time for the 2014 summer movie season.

Texas-based Cinemark completed the acquisition of 32 Rave theaters representing 483 screens in May, Warner said. The company operates theaters in Beavercreek, Huber Heights, Piqua and West Carrollton.

Cinemark, the nation’s third-largest theater chain, operates 504 theaters with 5,794 screens in 40 U.S. states, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and 10 other Latin American countries as of June 30.
