Dayton government and The Entrepreneurs Center are launching a new business incubator — and $10,000 of support to selected businesses.

The Dayton Neighborhood Business Accelerator is open to home-based entrepreneurs and small neighborhood businesses run by Dayton residents.

One entrepreneur from each quadrant of the city (northeast, southeast, southwest and northwest) will be selected to receive up to $10,000 in third-party consulting and support services to help them grow their businesses.

“Successful neighborhood businesses play a major role in Dayton’s economy and quality of life,” Jeffrey Mims, Dayton city commissioner, said in the city’s announcement. “We are pleased to be able to help neighborhood businesses through this program.”

“The four selected entrepreneurs will receive intensive technical assistance from (The Entrepreneurs Center) to develop a business action plan,” the city said. “In developing the action plan, TEC will work with the selected neighborhood entrepreneurs to identify business opportunities, develop clear plans to address those opportunities, and identify specific business needs including marketing, accounting, legal advice, or other services.”

Dayton City Commissioner Joey Williams said the effort “continues our rich legacy of neighborhood-based entrepreneurship and helps ensure our neighborhoods will continue to be cradles of innovation.”

Applications are available at daytonohio.gov and at The Entrepreneurs Center at 714 E. Monument Ave.
