A local credit union donated $12,500 toward tornado relief.

Abbey Credit Union, with locations in Troy and Vandalia, said in a statement today that $12,500 will be given out via gift cards to those who need help with food, goods or supplies lost as a result of the storms.

The Memorial Day tornadoes left a trail of damage in their wake, destroying homes and businesses and causing millions of dollars in damages.

Those interested in the funds from the credit union should bring an ID, photos of the damage and (if insured) a copy of the insurance policy. Part of the deductible may be reimbursed, the credit union said.
