Crocs is planning to build a second distribution center in Dayton next to its other massive warehouse near the Dayton International Airport.

Crocs spokeswoman Melissa Layton said the company is currently estimating they will be able to hire 400 to 500 more people to work at the location, adding to the retailer’s current 850 local employee and contract workers at the existing Dayton center.

The footwear company announced in February 2019 that it had plans to move its North American distribution operation from Ontario, Calif. to a site near Dayton International Airport, and planned originally to hire around 130.

“First and foremost, we had a nice welcome into the community over the last year and a half and we are already up to 850 employees and we see ourselves adding 400 or 500 jobs by year end,” said Crocs Chief People Officer Shannon Sisler.

Crocs, best known for its varieties of clogs and sandals, has had a streak of sustained e-commerce growth. The company reported for the first quarter of 2020 an e-commerce revenue growth of 15.8%.

Sisler said the plans for the additional distribution center is in response to how Crocs has continued to grow.

“By year end hopefully we’ll be up and running in the new facility,” Sisler said.

Crocs distribution center expansion to the e-commerce companies that have made the Dayton area home for their distribution operations in recent years, with a concentration of newcomers in a series of centers built near the airport. Companies such as Amazon, Caterpillar, P&G, Meijer, Yaskawa Motoman Robotics and many others have anchored e-commerce and logistics operations in the area and some plan to do more.

The new distribution center will be 525,000 square feet, which is about the same size as the current distribution center.

“Crocs has been a great partner from day one and their continued growth is something we have been working on since they opened their doors,” Jeff Hoagland, president and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition, said in a statement. “The continued collaboration with our public sector partners (Dayton and Montgomery County) and JobsOhio shows why companies continue to locate and grow in the Dayton region and Ohio.”

Layton said Crocs will be hiring across many positions, from warehouse associates, to equipment operators, to trainers and more.
