The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton announced Thursday morning that it is changing it's name to Dayton Children’s Hospital.

A changing health care industry is inspiring local hospitals to rebrand themselves in preparation for the future.

The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton announced Thursday morning that it is changing names of the Dayton region’s independent children’s hospital.

The hospital said it is now operating under a new name: Dayton Children’s Hospital.

Since 2006, the hospital had been doing business as Dayton Children’s in a planned move to establish a regionally connected brand, yet its official name remained The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, according to the announcement.

Hospital officials said now was the perfect time to make the name transition official.

“The new name is more reflective of who we are and reaffirms our future—a children’s hospital delivering high quality, comprehensive care to the region’s newborns, children and teens,” says Dayton Children’s President and Chief Executive Officer Deborah Feldman in a statement.

“Our research indicates a stronger association between higher levels of care and the word ‘hospital’ than with ‘medical center.’ The change further reinforces our leadership in providing critical pediatric services and care to this region.”

The news from Dayton Children's follows similar news from Dayton's largest health system. Dayton Daily News was the first to report Wednesday online that Premier Health Partners has dropped "Partners" from its name and is doing business now as Premier Health.
