These acquisitions are part of Dayton Children’s plan to make an accessible and sustainable system of pediatric care, the health system said, as it continues to innovate new systems of care.
Both of the offices will continue operating under their current names but will be owned by Dayton Children’s.
“We are committed to caring for the children in our area and continuously look at ways to serve them better,” said Dr. Greg Eberhart, founding partner for Cornerstone Pediatrics.
Both he and the founder of Shelby Pediatrics saw this as an opportunity to help the children they serve.
“This opportunity benefits families today and opens doors to amazing possibilities in the future,” Eberhart said.
“The innovation that we are able to achieve together is already making a difference for kids,” said Dr. Karen Smith, founder for Shelby Pediatrics.
Shelby Pediatrics has already been a part of Dayton Children’s Health Partners, a collaborative focused on pediatrics where physician partners standardize and coordinate care in order to improve health outcomes.
“As members of the Dayton Children’s Health Partners, a clinically integrated network, for many years, we have been able to align care protocols to make sure all children across our region are getting the right care, in the right place and at the right time,” Smith said.
The Cornerstone and Shelby Pediatrics doctors, nurses and staff will be Dayton Children’s employees but will still provide care under Cornerstone and Shelby Pediatrics names. Families will still see the same providers they know and love, Dayton Children’s said. This alignment will provide a more seamless experience for patients.
”We know we need to reinvent the path to children’s health for the best outcomes and this is yet another step along that path toward achieving the optimal health for every child within our reach,” said Deborah Feldman, president and CEO for Dayton Children’s Hospital.
This news comes after an announcement from Cincinnati Children’s that it will be offering primary care services at its Centerville location.
Dayton Children’s Hospital is a level one pediatric trauma care center. It is one of 31 independent freestanding children’s hospitals in the country. Dayton Children’s health system also has more than 20 locations, including emergency rooms, urgent cares and Kids Express locations. Dayton Children’s serves 20 Ohio counties and eastern Indiana, and they care for more than 400,000 children each year.
