Dayton deli to expand hours starting April 1

DAYTON — The Deli at Webster Street at 32 Webster St. adjacent to the Second Street Public Market will expand its hours into the evenings four days a week starting April 1, the restaurant’s chef, Mark Ferris, said this morning.

The deli, which has been serving lunch since 2005, will expand from its current 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekday hours to 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday’s. The deli will continue to close at 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, because its facilities also include a banquet center that hosts evening events on weekends.

Ferris said the decision to expand into dinner service in conjunction with the opening of the Dayton Dragons baseball season was the result of customer demand. The restaurant asked readers of its Deli at Webster Street Facebook page whether they should try evening hours, “and the positive response was overwhelming,” Ferris said.

The deli will offer a sneak peek of sorts to its expansion into evening hours on Wednesday, March 20, when it will stay open until 10 p.m. and offer a Happy Hour from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with free appetizers and a steak dinner special.

The Deli at Webster Street, owned by Sandy Mendelson, has a full liquor license and is planning to host craft beer and wine tastings.
