Premier Health, which operates the hospital, said in a statement that the Miami Valley Hospital trauma program was re-verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by a committee with the American College of Surgeons.
“The trauma program involves nearly every aspect of service Miami Valley Hospital provides,” Dr. Peter Ekeh, trauma program medical director, said in a statement. “This re-verification achievement is a team effort; many services come together – emergency medicine, surgery, medical imaging, inpatient units, rehabilitation – to care for the trauma patient.”
Premier stated that verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance. There are five separate categories of verification and each category has specific criteria that must be met by a facility seeking that level of verification and each hospital has an on-site review by a team of experienced site reviewers.
