A Northern Virginia-based defense company has hired a former Air Force officer familiar to the Dayton area.

Centauri, a Chantilly, Va.-based provider of engineering, intelligence, cyber-security and advanced technology solutions, has hired retired Col. Elena Oberg as a senior systems engineer and program manager at the company’s growing Dayton-area office.

Oberg, who also served as vice commander of the 88th Air Base Wing, was named vice commander of the Air Force Research Lab in the spring of 2017. In her new role, she will support multiple contracts at Centauri’s 3725 Pentagon Blvd. in Beavercreek.

“We are thrilled to have Elena join our leadership team here at Centauri,” Eric Hildebrand, Centauri vice president of technical intelligence, said in a release from the company. “She brings over two decades of diverse Air Force experience in cyber, space and intelligence, and surveillance and reconnaissance to our growing team.”

“With a long history of hiring military veterans who have deep insight into how the defense industry works, at Centauri we believe Elena represents another asset to our deep and capable team of experts,” Centauri Chief Executive Dave Dzaran said in the same release.

At AFRL, Oberg assisted in the discovery, development and integration of war-fighting technologies for AFRL’s air, space and cyberspace force.

“Centauri has a well-deserved reputation for delivering impressive results for its national security customers and I’m thrilled to be joining the team,” Oberg said. “Centauri is committed to Dayton and I’m committed to helping the company continue its impressive growth in this community.”

Centauri has offices nationwide.
