Delta Air Lines was the only carrier to show an increase in passengers at Dayton International Airport in the month of May.
Delta totaled more than 26,000 passengers for the month, a 4 percent increase compared to May 2015.
Delta also was the only carrier to see a positive increase in travelers for the year at Dayton International, according to the most recent passenger report released on the Airport’s site.
Southwest Airlines saw a 26 percent decrease in passenger totals in May.
The reduction in travelers likely is due to the shift of available flights out of Dayton. Southwest began directing all flights out of Dayton to Chicago Midway International Airport, its main hub, in April. The airline previously flew non-stop flights to Baltimore, Denver, and Orlando.
American Airlines is the largest carrier at the airport, but recorded a 3 percent drop in passengers compared to May 2015.
The airline’s passenger trends are consistent with the airport overall. Both American and the airport as a whole registered 2 percent decreases for the month and 3 percent losses for the year in total passengers, according to the report. The large carrier makes up 38 percent of the passengers at the airport.
United Airlines had a 4 percent loss for the month, contributing to a 2.5 percent decline for the year. This comes a month after the carrier reported a 5 percent surge in total passengers.
Allegiant Air had a passenger total of more than 2,700 in May. That was an increase of more than 1,000 passengers since the low-cost carrier introduced flights out of Dayton in April.
