Dollar General to open new store in Arcanum on Saturday

Dollar General will host a grand opening at its newest location in western Ohio at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 with free prizes and special deals.

The first 50 adult shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways, according to a Dollar General news release.

Traditional Dollar General stores employ six to 10 people.

Tennessee-based Dollar General — the largest dollar-store chain in the U.S. — is involved in a bidding war of sorts to purchase rival Family Dollar, which also is being pursued by Dollar Tree. Family Dollar agreed to an $8.5 million deal with Dollar Tree in late July, but Dollar General has not given up its takeover effort, and on Tuesday raised its bid for Family Dollar to $9.1 billion.
