Centerville restaurant forced to change name

A Centerville restaurant is being forced to change its name because of a cease-and-desist letter from a Texas chain of a similar name whose nearest restaurant is nearly 900 miles away.

Twisted Root Restaurant & Bar, 79 S. Main St. (Ohio 48) in Centerville, opened in June, three months after an auto accident sent a car careening through a side wall of the restaurant, which was then called Savona Restaurant and Wine Bar. Keith Taylor, the founder and chef of Twisted Root and its predecessor Savona, said he has received a cease-and-desist letter from the Twisted Root Burger Co., which operates nine burger restaurants in Texas and one in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Dallas-based chain objected to Taylor’s use of the “Twisted Root” name and demanded that he change the name or face a potential lawsuit. All of the Twisted Root Burger Co.’s restaurants are more than 850 miles from Dayton.
