4 existing and future spots in Springfield that have people excited

The loss of some mainstay businesses in Springfield — like the Wendy’s on South Limestone Street — have left many residents pining for their favorite hangouts, but plenty of newness is on the horizon for the city. Here are four business that are new, on the way or have come back in recent memory.

Victor’s Taco Shop

This Ohio-based Mexican restaurant has been on many people’s wish list for the area for a long time. Many were excited to find out it was expanding from its three locations in Dayton, Xenia and Huber Heights to the area and waited eagerly for it to open. The restaurant recently had its grand opening celebration on May 4 at the site of the old Krispy Krunchy Chicken on East Main Street.

Starbucks

The announcement that Springfield’s first Starbucks location was on the horizon came as a pleasant surprise to many. A stand-alone location for the Seattle-based international coffeehouse has long been sought after by local coffee lovers to get their caffeine fix. According to city records, a building permit was approved by the city for $500,000 location to be built on Hillcrest Ave. Estimates suggest the new stop will be open by October.

This unique home decor shop started by four local artists has brought a touch of quirky charm to the downtown shopping scene. It offers a variety of wares, from handmade soaps to modern-minded furniture. The store recently celebrated its three-month anniversary at the location on North Fountain Avenue, next to Winan’s Coffee + Chocolates.

Cecil and Lime

Springfielders are no stranger to Cecil and Lime — the restaurant has been part of the city’s food scene for nearly 14 years. The need for a bar expansion and plumbing repairs temporarily closed the venue down in January, which gave the staff a “much needed rest,” owner Micah Berner said. The eatery reopened in February for limited hours and has since returned to full service. Berner said more improvements, like offering more live music during the week, could be in the spot’s future.
