Dollar Express Co., which owns many Family Dollar stores, is laying off approximately 181 workers in cities across Ohio.

The discount retailer will be acquired by Dollar General, but several stores will be liquidated and more than 2,700 store jobs are at risk, according to several media reports.

The company sent warn notices to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, and about 20 stores will be impacted in the state.

In November 2015, Family Dollar sold stores to the Dollar Express, a requirement from the Federal Trade Commission to complete Dollar Tree’s acquistion of Family Dollar, according to a spokesman.

Approximately 40 employees will lose their jobs at five stores closing in Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Another 23 employees at three locations in the Columbus area will also lose their jobs by the end of June.
