Furniture Fair president Bill Daniels said Monday that the new store is shooting for a “soft” opening around Black Friday, the traditionally heavy shopping day after Thanksgiving, although that projected opening could be pushed back until early December.
Company officials will hold off on hosting a grand opening until after the first of the year, he said.
The store is hiring, and Daniels said it will open with about 50 employees. Interested persons can apply online at www.furniturefair.net/careers/.
Several sales associates have been hired and are training at Cincinnati-area stores, Daniels said. The company has had its eye on the Dayton area for many years, and the company president said his son, Nick, will serve as manager of the new 60,000-square-foot Miami Twp. store.
The 53-year-old company operates Furniture Fair, Home and Sleep, and Design Destination stores.
“We’re a throwback to the old way of doing business,” Daniels said. “We’re family owned, and the third generation of the family is now involved in operating the business.”
Chris Snyder, director of economic development for Miami Twp., said township officials are pleased to see the re-use of the Cub Foods, which has been vacant since the grocery store shut down in September 2012.
Furniture Fair “has been investing quite a bit of money” into improvements to both the interior and exterior of the former grocery store, and its new store “will bring a lot of additional traffic” into the retail center, Snyder said. The center includes Hobby Lobby, which also is planning on improvements to its exterior, the economic development director said.
“This speaks well of the quality of the market” around the Dayton Mall, Snyder said.
