Gas prices are on the rise in Dayton: Higher than average

Gas prices in the Dayton area hit $3 a gallon today for the first time in more than five years as fears heightened about Tropical Storm Barry hitting landfall.

The average gas price in Dayton reached $2.96 today, but some stations in Centerville, Beavercreek, North Dayton, Springfield, Bellbrook and Germantown are still priced between $2.51 and $2.79, according to WHIO's Pump Patrol.

The prices are slightly higher than they were this time last year, according to GasBuddy.com, and they’re higher than they have been on this day since 2015.

The prices for the Dayton metro, including Montgomery, Greene and Miami counties are up 0.3 cents from Thursday, 8.9 cents from last week, 42.5 cents from last month and 2.9 cents from last year.

The average national gas price is $2.79, according to Pump Patrol.
