How to hire a window cleaning company

Keeping the windows in your home or business clean can be a challenge. Depending on your circumstances, tackling the task may be best left to a professional. Your Better Business Bureau offers tips of what to look for when hiring a window cleaning company.

Over the last year, your BBB recorded more than 1,700 inquiries locally about window cleaning companies. Across North America, about 107,000 inquiries were filed with your BBB against companies in this industry.

Your Better Business Bureau offers tips for finding a trustworthy window cleaning company:

• Shop around and compare. Get several bids detailing the work to be done, cost and payment terms.

• Get recommendations from friends and family. If they’re pleased with who they’ve used, most likely you’ll be too.

• Ask for references. A reputable company will be happy to provide you with a list of previous customers. Don’t be afraid to contact them or even ask to look at the work completed.

• Find out if the company is a member of any associations like the International Window Cleaning Association.

• Consider reputation, years of service and services provided, as well as cost.

• Be sure the window cleaning contractor is appropriately insured.

• Watch out for companies offering quick solutions or using misleading statements, high pressure or scare tactics.

• Don’t pay cash. Pay by check or credit card which is able to serve as proof of payment.

Mike McCoy of Clear View Window Cleaning says “Check the company out because many companies take advantage of people especially the elderly.” McCoy also says first impression is everything. “If a company shows up looking unprofessional, that’s not someone you’d want in your home.” He also says make sure you feel comfortable with who you hire.

Remember, several items will determine the cost, like the size of the home and the number windows. Also, some companies have a minimum charge to start a job, check before they begin work.
