The Humane Society of Greater Dayton bought the 4 acres from the Miami Twp. Community Improvement Corp., the township’s private development arm, for $572,000.
The non-profit also bought a 10,000-square-foot building that had been owned by the township that they plan to repurpose.
“A piece of land that was once used for storage will now be a bustling place where we can all come together to help celebrate the bond between people and pets,” stated Miami Twp. Board of Trustees President John Morris.

The Humane Society also plans to expand its 1661 Nicholas Road location in Dayton to include a high-volume spay/neuter clinic, which in a few years time will be able to spay/neuter an estimated 20,000 animals each year. With its current facility, they are capped off around 4,000 surgeries annually.
The Humane Society also plans to build a needs-based, full-service animal hospital.
