Bacon manufacturer Sugar Creek Packing Co. has bought about two acres of land adjacent to its North Gettysburg Avenue plant.

The Washington Court House-based food producer has a Dayton plant at 1241 N. Gettysburg. The recently purchased pair of parcels are very close by at 1365 N. Gettysburg, Montgomery County property records show.

Records put the purchase price at $350,000. The transaction was dated April 1. The seller: New Beginning Youth Ministries.

The company has been an active land buyer in recent years. Last September, Sugar Creek purchased the former Kroger store at 900 N. Gettysburg with plans to create a new warehouse.

Before that, in early 2017, the business bought two parcels along Gardendale Avenue, north of its Gettysburg plant.

Mike Grauwelman, executive director of the Montgomery County Land Reutilization Corp., said in 2017 that the company wanted to gain control of that land to demolish vacant homes near its plant.

A message seeking comment was sent to Sugar Creek Wednesday.
