Leaders celebrating company’s expansion in region

Government and business officials are celebrating Tuesday plans for a new manufacturing plant and distribution center in Batavia, in Clermont County.

Finnish company Huhtamaki, a consumer goods, packaging and paperboard maker, known for its Chinet brand products, is expanding its presence in the region with the new facility. Huhtamaki also owns a plant in New Vienna, in Clinton County, and acquired in 2011 a nested paperboard plant in Franklin, in Warren County, formerly known as Ample Industries Inc.

The new Batavia project is estimated to be at least a $57 million investment that creates 200 jobs within three years of opening, government officials have previously said. Ohio approved tax incentives for the project at the end of 2012. It is located in a former Ford transmission plant.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich and JobsOhio President John Minor join Huhtamaki executives Tuesday at the project site.
