LexisNexis mum on how many jobs will be moved to Philippines

DAYTON — LexisNexis remains quiet on exactly how many jobs at its Miami Twp. campus could end up in the Philippines.

A recent memo distributed to local LexisNexis employees said jobs will begin being shifted to an operations center in Manila, Philippines next year.

But the document, dated August 2011, does not detail how many jobs will be moved to Manila or how many will remain at the company’s Miami Twp. campus.

A spokesman could not offer numbers Thursday. “We are still at the beginning of the process and LexisNexis has not made any decisions on how many positions may be affected,” said LexisNexis spokesman Marc Osborn.

In a “frequently asked questions” section, the memo says, “While there will be job impacts in the U.S., it is important to note that core skills must be retained in the U.S. and any work that we move to Manila will need to be transitioned carefully over time. We will maintain research support and core capacity in the U.S. to balance workloads, resolve complex issues and help ensure effective disaster recovery.”

The Manila operations center opened in February and has about 160 employees, according to the internal memo obtained by the Dayton Daily News. Local leaders of LexisNexis, a New York City-based information services company, have said the company has about 3,000 Dayton-area employees.

The memo says the company will “evaluate moving some GCSS (Global Customer Service & Support) volume of services” to Manila.

“The company has not filed any WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining) notices with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. When companies with 100 or more employees plan layoffs affecting 50 or more workers in a 30-day period, WARN filings are required.
