Local ALDI grocery stores to be remodeled, expanded

Grocery retailer ALDI will invest $1.6 billion in an extensive plan to remodel and expand 1,300 stores by 2020, including some locations in the Miami Valley.

The grocery chain, which is known for its low prices, will upgrade the look of stores and expand some spaces. Remodeled stores will have a modern design, open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly features like energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

ALDI officials have not announced the specific locations that will undergo renovations, but local ALDI leaders said they were looking forward to share plans for Dayton stores in the future.

“We’re excited to share that we’re updating the ALDI store experience as part of our $1.6 billion nationwide plan to remodel and expand more than 1,300 of our stores by 2020,” said Sarah Brown, Springfield division vice president for ALDI. “With approximately 10 ALDI stores in Dayton, we can’t wait to bring the new look of ALDI to shoppers who know and love us, plus new fans, as we make more room for a larger selection of fresh products, plus customer favorites like organics, gluten-free foods and premium baby items.”

ALDI plans to have nearly 2,000 stores by 2018, and has also launched a new lines of baby products including diapers, cleansing wipes and baby wash. ALDI opened a new 18,5000-square-foot location on Lakeview Drive in Beavercreek in December.
