Houston, Texas-based MDN itself bought the building in 2011 for just over $414,000, the year the school opened in Dayton.

The 121 Monmouth St. property is one of two Dayton locations for the Horizon Science Academy charter school. The academy also has a presence for students in grades six through 12 at 250 Shoup Mill Road.
The 7,966-square-foot, two-story brownstone building was built in 1900, according to county records. Horizon calls the East Dayton school its “downtown Dayton” location.
The Dayton school has more than 220 students, its web site says. The school is part of the Schaumburg, Ill.-based Concept Schools Network, which has schools in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri.
