Local wind turbine blade maker wins certification

MIAMI TWP, Montgomery County — WebCore Technologies Inc. has achieved a milestone considered important by company leaders.

The manufacturer of composite material for wind turbine blades has seen its core material for those blades — dubbed “Tycor W” — receive comprehensive certification by Germanischer Lloyd (GL), a spokeswoman for the company said late Wednesday.

GL is a German consultant that monitors standards for the energy and maritime industries. The certification can be seen as a “Good Housekeeping Seal of approval” for wind turbine blade work, Web-core Chief Executive Douglas Ventura told the Dayton Daily News last month.

The Miami Twp. manufacturer recently won $3.8 million in private and public funding, including $1.8 million from the U.S. Department of Energy.

It also has secured a partnership with German fiberglass supplier 3B to distribute WebCore’s Tycor W material in Europe and Asia.
