MAHLE Behr to take over logistics work; 25 to be layed off

The largest auto parts plant still within Dayton city limits will take over a materials handling operation before the end of March – a move that will mean the layoff of about 25 contract employees, a site manager for the contract company said Monday.

Employees working for the affected business, Southshore Cos., will have an opportunity to apply for openings at the MAHLE Behr Webster Street plant, said John Phillips, site manager for Southshore Cos.

Southshore has handled warehousing logistics at the site for about three and one-half years, Phillips said. The company also has a contract to work in the old REX electronics building in Harrison Twp., he said.

“But this group, we don’t have any place else to go,” Phillips said.
