Moraine company installs solar arrays

Moraine-based Kastle Solar & Wind and Schott Solar PV, Inc. have completed two solar panel array installations at two elementary schools in Adams County, the companies said.

The arrays are expected to save about $40,000 a year in electricity costs, the two companies said in a joint statement.

“Our staff and teachers are eager to incorporate the system into the learning environment because we want our students to be educated for the jobs of tomorrow,” Steve Wolfe, facilities manager for Adams County and Ohio Valley District Schools, said in a release.

Kastle Solar & Wind is part of Kastle Electric, an electrical contractor for the past 80 years.

“We see tremendous opportunities for schools like Peebles Elementary and North Adams Elementary to save money on their electric bills by installing clean, reliable solar,” Mark Wiley, Kastle Solar & Wind president, said in his company’s release.

The panels were made at Schott’s Albuquerque, N.M. facility, which employs more than 300 people. The projects also employed Ohio-based electricians, fence contractors and installation crews. Ohio distributors provided over 100,000 feet of wire and 10,000 feet of conduit for the projects, the companies said. The maintenance of these systems will be performed by Ohio-based electricians for the next 20 years, they said.
