Motoman Robotics acquires Texas software firm

The Motoman Robotics division of Yaskawa America Inc. has acquired all outstanding shares of Agile Planet Inc., a company that develops intelligent robotics software and hardware products that improve the efficiency and functionality of industrial robots. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Agile Planet, based in Austin, Texas, currently is providing unified robot and motion control software products used in Yaskawa Motoman’s MLX Robot Gateway platform, as well as robot controllers with capabilities needed for teach-less programming, company officials said.

The acquisition of Agile Planet by Miamisburg-based Motoman furthers the robotics manufacturer’s plan to increase global development resources to strengthen its position in the advancement of “next generation” robotics products.

“Agile Planet’s team and products enhance our vision of providing seamless solutions for our customers and channel partners,” said Steve Barhorst, president and chief operating officer of Yaskawa Motoman, in a statement.

Motoman Robotics, a division of Yaskawa America, provides robots for the automotive manufacturing, heavy equipment construction, and materials handling and packaging sectors. The company has more than 350 employees in the Dayton area.
