Nelly’s Chicken moving to Centerville next month

Nelly’s Chicken at 37 Alex Road in Miamisburg is moving to the former Savona/Root 48 space at 79 S. Main St. in Centerville in March, co-owner Rafael Santillan said this afternoon.

“We outgrew this location,” Santillan said of the Miamisburg retail center off Ohio 725, which has housed Nelly’s since it opened in 2006. The restaurant specializes in charcoal rotisserie chicken and serves several Bolivian entrees and side dishes.

Plans call for opening in the middle of March, Santillan said. The new Nelly’s will seat 80 to 100, at least double the existing restaurant’s 40. And it will be a full-service restaurant rather than counter-service, the co-owner said. Employment will double to about 12, Santillan said

The Centerville restaurant space has been vacant since Root 48 Tavern & Grille closed in August 2014. The building previously housed Twisted Root and Savona Restaurant & Wine Bar, all three under the direction of chef and co-owner Keith Taylor, and before that, it held the Blue Moon restaurant.

“The city of Centerville is pleased to see a speedy re-use for that property right in the heart of town,” said Nathan Cahall, development director for the city of Centerville.

Chris Fine, development director for the city of Miamisburg, said city officials were aware the move was a possibility.

“They’ve been looking for a larger space,” Fine said.
