7 new, cheap flight options added at regional airports in 2017

Discount airlines flooded regional airports with cheap, new flights to destinations across the globe this year.

WOWair, Frontier Airlines and Allegiant Air added new flights in Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton — lowering airfare for eager travelers in the region. These were some of the best deals added to the region this year:

1. Frontier adds nonstop service to six new cities at Cincinnati airport

Discount carrier Frontier grew its service with the addition of six nonstop destinations, including Seattle, Miami, San Antonio, Austin, Jacksonville and Raleigh/Durham. That brings Frontier's service to 22 destinations from CVG, according to a statement from the airport. LEARN MORE

2. Allegiant adds new flights at Dayton airport

The airline announced new nonstop seasonal service to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The flights will operate twice weekly from the Dayton airport, and will begin May 24. Flight days, times and lowest fares can be found at the Allegiant websiteLEARN MORE

3. WOW air adding discount international flights in Cincinnati, Cleveland

The low-cost transatlantic airline announced new international flight services from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Europe via Keflavik International Airport in Iceland. Flights to Keflavik International Airport are available from $99 one-way including taxes. Fares to WOW air’s additional locations from Cincinnati, such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dublin, Copenhagen and more, start at $149.

4. Southwest leaves Dayton, but adds new flights in Cincinnati

Southwest announced it would add services to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, and would also pull services at the Akron-Canton airport. Larger airports are also enticing airlines with abatements and discounted fees. CVG offered new incentives to Southwest, including waiving specific fees. LEARN MORE

5. Allegiant adds new low, cost service to Boston from local airport

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Aiport announced the airline added the route to Boston/Providence for one-way fares as low as $38. The new nonstop route operates twice weekly and began Nov. 17 between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and T. F. Green Airport (PVD). LEARN MORE

6. Allegiant adds new flights to Destin from Ohio airports

Low-cost airline Allegiant added 17 new routes at hubs nationwide, including two airports in Ohio. The airline also added new base operations and service from Louisville, Ky. Cleveland and Columbus airports landed new seasonal nonstop service to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport starting in May.LEARN MORE

7. Cheap airfare: What does it cost to fly out of local airports?

It's going to cost you more on average to fly out of Dayton International Airport compared to Cincinnati and Columbus airports. However, Louisville International Standiford Field Airport lands at the top of the list — with average fare costing $432.63 in the 2nd quarter of 2017. LEARN MORE
